Ministry of Foreign Affairs undertakes tasks in public administration, regarding the formation and execution, in its capacity, of the foreign policy of the Republic of Montenegro (in the following paragraphs: Republic), furthering relations of the Republic with other countries, international organizations and institutions; monitoring of the situation and the development of international relations, as well as of the bilateral cooperation with other countries; following and presentation of the political situation and the activities of the ministries and institutions of the Republic in the EU association process; taking initiatives of the Government of Montenegro regarding the establishment and suspension of the diplomatic relations of Serbia and Montenegro with another country; membership of Serbia and Montenegro to the international organizations, form of the representation of the Republic in the missions of Serbia and Montenegro to the UN, OSCE, EU and the Council of Europe, as well as the opening or closure of the diplomatic/consular representatives of Serbia and Montenegro to third countries and international organizations; undertaking diplomatic, consular and other specific tasks regarding the establishment of political, economic, and cultural relations of the Republic with third countries and international organization; preparation, conclusion and execution of international legal acts; protection of the interests of the Republic and its citizens in the foreign countries in cooperation with other relevant institutions; undertaking of the necessary measures for the improvement of the relations with the Diaspora; participation in the establishment and the formation of the foreign policy and international cooperation in all spheres, in cooperation with other relevant state institutions; informing the international public about the policy of the Republic, informing of the citizens of the Republic abroad about the policy of the Republic; organization of the cooperation among scientific institutes; preparation of the participation of the Montenegrin representatives in the international conferences and negotiations for the conclusion of the international agreements; undertaking of the necessary tasks for the implementation of international agreements, as well as other tasks under its competences.
