National holidays:

July 13th - the Statehood Day
May 21st - the Independence Day

Other holidays:

January 1 st - the New Years Day
May 1st - the Labour Day

National and other holidays are celebrated two days, on the day of the holiday and on the day after.

Religious holidays:

Ortodox: the Christmas Eve, the Christmas (two days), Great Friday, Easter (the second day), the celebration of the home Patron Saint;

Roman Catholics: the Christmas Eve, the Christmas (two days), Good Friday, Easter (the second day), All Saints;

Muslims: the Ramadan Eid (three days) and the Big Eid (three days);

Jews: Pascha (two days) and Yom Kippur (two days).


The freedom of religion, public and private expression of belief is guaranteed by the Constitution of Montenegro.
